Close Looking: Peculiar Images: Immersive Painting Workshop (NOV 23, DEC 7-21)
Meeting Dates & Times: Nov 23, Dec 7-21 (Sundays 1:30-5PM)
Early Bird Discount expires Oct 31
“Close Looking: Peculiar Images” is a painting workshop for those who love to study how pictures work. Learn by painting through others’ compositions — taking apart structure, rhythm, and tone — and discover how those lessons can shape your own visual voice. Ideal for painters seeking a deeper relationship between seeing, thinking, and making.
In this course, students will explore the structure of paintings and how artists organize form, color, and space to create visual poetry. Through guided prompts and reinterpretations of historical and contemporary artworks, participants will learn to see like painters: analyzing compositional decisions, experimenting with structure, and translating insight into their own practice. This class bridges art history and studio work, encouraging a deeper relationship between seeing and making.
“It is necessary to remove taboos of any sort, though keeping an axis of progression; to constitute paintings, like beings whose term can develop infinitely, where everything remains possible, instead of paintings where more terms become forbidden as we go on.” — Jean Hélion
This is open to participants of all levels of experiences.
Below is a list of recommended supplies:
Brushes* (Have at least 2 or 3 brushes ranging in size and shape)
Rags
Paint (Oil paint set, Gouache, OR Acrylic)

Any paint set that remotely resembles this list or includes additional colors is enough to get started.Medium (Linseed oil and gamsol/mineral spirits for oil painting)
