Sale Price:$200.00 Original Price:$225.00

Class meets every Sunday from 1:30PM to 5PM.
This is a course suitable for both beginner (with little to no experience) and intermediate painters (with moderate amount of experiences).

In this course, participants will learn the role of decision-making in the painting process while improving their understanding of foundations. We will work with a variety of subjects and concepts observed from life and from the works of other artists. We will also focus on plasticity and color resonance which will equip students to critically approach their own work and successfully navigate the dilemma between one's outer and inner worlds in the process of painting. We will be working from a variety of sources including still life, landscape, and master paintings.

JPA To-Go Policy: In person classes can now be substituted for 30 minute virtual meetings at alternative times and with personalized projects. If you know you will miss a class or live outside of St. Louis but still want to work with us, please give at least two weeks notice via email before the date of the class that will be missed. This is only available for our regular drawing and painting courses.

Please note that the following supplies offer options for oil, acrylic, or gouache. So, please read carefully and reach out if you have any questions.

Supplies needed (Please check in with us if you need alternative arrangements /ideas for supplies):

  • Brushes* (Have at least 2 or 3 brushes ranging in size and shape)

  • Rags

  • Paint (Oil paint set, Gouache, OR Acrylic)

    • A purchased paint set will work well for this class, or if you already have paints that is fine. We recommend having at least a black, titanium white, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, and ultramarine Blue. Any paint set that remotely resembles this list or includes additional colors is enough to get started.

  • Medium (Linseed oil and gamsol/mineral spirits for oil painting)

  • Palette knife (#62)

  • Surfaces

    • a 5×7”, 9×12”, or 11×14” value pack is a good start for acrylic or oil

    • 140 lb watercolor paper is good for gouache

  • 2 glass jars with lids (for oil painting)

  • Lava soap

  • rubber gloves (recommended for oil)

Easels, palettes, and drawing boards will be provided at the studio.
