2026 Winter Painting Marathon (JAN 2 - 4, 2026)
The Drawing Marathon was founded by artist Graham Nickson in 1988 as part of the curriculum for the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. Many have benefited from the profound richness of intensive drawing practice. At JPA, we want to generate a similar impact by hosting a mini painting marathon, in which students will be working rigorously for 3 consecutive days from 9am to 6pm, both from a life model and from other sources. Through the process of looking and responding to the environment, students gain the ability to employ visual metaphors that contain mystery, poetry, and meaning that is unique to the artist’s vision and worldview. Critiques are an integral part of this experience and serve to inform the artist of the interpretative and analytical nature of art appreciation. This 3-day experience shall yield a deeper understanding of image construction and pictorial language that lives beyond the duration of the workshop.
Early Bird Discount ends December 15, 2025.
Sign up is available thru Jan 1, 2026.
Spots are limited to 6 participants.
See what our previous participants say about our program:
“This school is a great place to not only expand your skill set, but also your ideas about art no matter your level of art experience. Jacob and Misa are great at fostering a discussion that leads you to learn what you need to learn, instead of just telling you an idea of what they think is right. I can't wait to return in the future.” — James T.
